Devil's Stairs

In Ashe County, North Carolina there is a rock formation that is called the Devil’s Stairs. This site marks the place where strange phenomena has occurred since it was first reported back in 1910. In this year, a miner lost his life nearby when a bizarre accident involving a dynamite explosion took place during the clearing of the mountainside for the highway. Later that same year, a mentally disturbed woman killed her child here by throwing her in the nearby creek. Since that time, several apparitions have been reported walking along the ridge and some say that a phantom rider used to jump on the backs of horses that passed by. After the advent of cars, the rider has taken to being spotted at night in the rear view mirror as an unwanted back seat passenger. Today, it is mostly known as a place to be avoided after dark. We dared venture to the spot during the day and took these pictures. Now we need the courage to go at night. (Just dont look in the back seat)
