When it comes to North Carolina's strange legends, few can surpass the Devil's Tramping Ground in it's intriguing longevity.
Since before the arrival of European visitors, it has been said that nothing will grow in the forty foot wide circle and
that if objects are left within it's circumference, they will be out of the circle by morning. The first settlers who came
here attributed the strange spot to the Indians holding their tribal ceremonies here.... and yet the circle has remained
long after the Indians departed. Some have suggested that perhaps the ground may be sterile because of everything from
UFO landings to ancient crop circles. NiteWatch visited the site at dusk on the summer solstice (how cool is that?) We didn't
leave anything overnight or stay overnight, but nothing was growing. There sure has been plenty of fire in the circle but
I dont think it came from Hell as it looked like a camp site. The only red faces were ours due to the summer heat, but at
the same time the guy who gave us directions was wearing a name tag......B. Elzebub.
