NiteWatch participated in the Old Wilkes candlelight ghost tour of downtown Wilkesboro, NC and enjoyed legends of the Old Wilkes Jail which housed Tom "Dooley" (Dula), the Tory Oak of revolutionary war fame, the Tory Oak Room at the old Smithey hotel, the Old Town cemetery and many other locations. Tom Dooley's trial and subsequent hanging for the murder of his sweetheart, Laura Foster, shortly after the Civil War has been a debated subject for over a century. We saw the painting of Ben Cleveland whose eyes are purported to follow women across the room. Many strange occurrences have been reported in the upstairs halls of the Old Smithey Hotel, now the Tory Oak Restaurant. The Tory Oak is the site where tories (people loyal to King George) were hanged.
