Past Investigations

Sept. 25, 2005 Brown Mtn. Trip
Calvin and his family traveled to Wiseman's View at the Linville Gorge to try to see the Brown Mtn. lights and within an hour, just after dusk, saw several lights on Brown Mtn. which he says could not have been produced by something such as an ATV, car, streetlight or other explainable object. There were multiple lights which were very near the top of the tree line. Unfortunately, he was unable to get his camera in time to capture video or pictures. We will try again soon to get the elusive evidence.

August 2005 Brown Mtn. Trip
This trip did not produce any sightings of the Brown Mtn. lights.

Judaculla Rock--July 2005

We examined the Judaculla Rock near Cullowhee, NC. See the link on the main page.

Brown Mountain Lights May 23-25

NiteWatch will camp at Brown Mountain with an emphasis on videotaping or taking pictures of the lights that have been seen in the area for centuries. For more information, see the link to BrownMountainLights.com. We will have night vision, night capable video cameras, still digital cameras, binoculars, global positioning system, emf meter and maybe a geiger counter.
FINDINGS:Our efforts to document the Brown Mtn. lights May 23rd thru May 25th were fruitless, but we did greatly enjoy the attempt. Two nights we spent many hours with digital video and still cameras, night vision, and binoculars, but came up empty. We traversed the Babel Tower trail and Linville Gorge Trail to the distance of 9 miles in unusually cold and windy conditions. Check out the pictures from the expedition. Thanks to Miskatonic University's ancient studies department for sponsoring the trip.

Chattanooga, TN April 2005

We traveled to Chattanooga, TN April 2005 and visited the Chickamauga-Chattanooga Civil War Battlefield where the legend of Old Green Eyes resides and the Snodgrass cabin where many wounded soldiers were treated. Old Green Eyes was to have been decapitated by a cannon ball and he has been seen many times over the years still searching for his body. One of these sightings was by a retired park ranger, so check the link for more information. NiteWatch did not get a glimpse of him or the lady in white that haunts the Snodgrass cabin, but we still enjoyed the trip. Other natural wonders we saw were Ruby Falls, a 150 foot subterranean waterfall deep within Lookout Mtn., Rock City and its awesome Lovers Leap, the Tennessee Aquarium, IMAX theatre and the Lost Sea which is the largest underground lake in America.

Lookout Mountain, Tenn. March 28-30, 2005

We traveled to Chattanooga, TN last month and visited the Chickamauga-Chattanooga Civil War Battlefield where the legend of Old Green Eyes resides and the Snodgrass cabin where many wounded soldiers were treated. Old Green Eyes was to have been decapitated by a cannon ball and he has been seen many times over the years still searching for his body. One of these sightings was by a retired park ranger, so check the link for more information. NiteWatch did not get a glimpse of him or the lady in white that haunts the Snodgrass cabin, where many soldiers (on both sides) were treated and died of horrendous injuries, but we still enjoyed the trip. Stargazing was January 9th 2005.

Edgemont, NC Trip December 11-13, 2004
We spent the weekend at a remote mountain cabin that included a nighttime trip to Brown Mountain and hiking in the area.

Sucker Hole Bridge ghost excursion

The legend of the Sucker Hole Bridge located on Twin Locust Rd. near the intersection of Grissel Tail Rd. in Traphill, NC says that a traveler long ago was crossing the bridge late at night and noticed to his side that he was accompanied by an male apparition. The story goes that he slipped and fell on the icy bridge into the freezing waters below and died. Now his mission is to assist those who cross so they will not meet his same fate. December 6th we visited the bridge but did not experience an apparition, but did experience an area of unusual cold on the bridge and a momentary sight of darker than darkness. Was the cold simply a natural area of cold air that should be expected when walking over a low water bridge at night? I think so. Did my eyes play tricks on me when I saw a slender "super dark" six foot tall space beside me on the bridge? I hope so. Our conclusion on the bridge is that it is definitely a creepy spot after midnight in a very remote, cold, mountainous area when there is a slight drizzle.

Gettysburg, PA August 2004
We visited Gettysburg National Military Park and cemetery. Included was a presentation at the Farnsworth House in the basement where they have set up a Victorian funerary parlor for dramatic tales of the paranormal. A one hour ghost walk followed that covered many tragedies and ghostly reports that was entertaining, informative and yes, spooky! Nothing unusual was observed, but if there is an area that should be haunted in the U.S., this is it. See the link to the Farnsworth House and if interested in going, they have available rooms that are supposed to be haunted if you have what it takes to stay!
